Every panel, camera, and access-controlled door needs power that’s correctly sized and, in most cases, backed up. This page covers the power supplies, batteries, UPS units, and surge protection that support access control, intrusion, fire, and video installs. Getting power sizing wrong doesn’t just cause an inconvenience, an undersized battery fails a fire inspection and an undersized power supply causes doors or cameras to drop intermittently. Security Data Supply stocks power hardware from the major battery, UPS, and power supply manufacturers at 20+ locally owned franchises.

Why Contractors Buy Power Through SDS

Power sizing is a calculation, not a guess, amp draw, backup runtime, and code requirements all factor in, and getting it wrong means a failed inspection or a callback. SDS franchises carry the depth of battery sizes, power supply outputs, and UPS capacities to match the actual math on a job, plus staff who can walk through the sizing with you before you order.

Choosing Power by Job Type

Standard access control and intrusion power

Most door and panel installs run on standard 12V or 24V power supplies sized to the connected device count and locking hardware draw.

Fire-rated power

Fire alarm circuits require UL864-listed, fire-rated power supplies, a different listing than standard security power supplies, and not interchangeable with them.

Backup runtime for networked systems

Recorders, switches, and networked access control panels typically need a UPS sized to bridge an outage until backup power or generator kicks in, not just a battery on the panel itself.

Shop by Component

Power supplies. Standard and multi-output power supplies from MG Electronics and Bright Way Group.

Batteries and UPS. Backup batteries and UPS units from Interstate Batteries, GS Yuasa, Power Sonic, UPG (Universal Power Group), and Minuteman (Para Systems).

Surge protection. Surge protection devices from Ditek.

Common Questions

Battery sizing depends on the panel’s standby current draw and how many hours of backup runtime is required by code or the client, typically calculated in amp-hours against the panel’s spec sheet.

Fire-rated power supplies carry a UL864 listing specific to fire alarm circuits, with monitoring and failover requirements standard security power supplies don’t meet. The two are not interchangeable, and using the wrong one will fail inspection.

A panel battery covers the panel itself, but recorders, switches, and other networked gear need their own UPS to stay online through an outage, otherwise the panel keeps running while the recorder or network goes dark.
